Candace (Candy) Crew -- Founder and marketing director
Wild at heart, Candace has always loved the outdoors. From one mountain adventure to the next, she yearns for fresh air, sunshine, and a life filled with seasonal activities. In the summer and fall, you’ll find her lacing up her tennis shoes for daily hikes and trail runs with her lively and loyal dog, Fritz. In the winter and spring, she’s clipping into her skis—attracted by cold, quiet mornings and white, powdery slopes.
Candace was born and raised in Boise, Idaho, but undeniably calls Ketchum, Idaho home, too. She started skiing and riding dirt bikes by the time she was five years old, and from basketball shorts to soccer cleats, she’s played (just about) every sport. From the College of Idaho, she received a marketing degree and has been using her acquired collegiate skills and knowledge since she graduated. She’s proud of her hometown and her athletic abilities; she was a year-round athlete in high school and graduated from college as a four-year volleyball and track and field athlete.
When she isn’t at her desk working on a myriad of marketing projects, i.e. social media, creative emailing, and digital marketing efforts, her affinity for the outdoors and backroad exploration lures her restless heart. Whether mountain biking, water skiing, rafting, or camping, she isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. With the help of her outdoor-seeking fiance, you’ll find them capturing all of these adventures with an iPhone and a Nikon DSLR camera.

Edie Horstman -- content creator and Health Coach
Originally from the Bay Area, Edie resides in Denver, Colorado, a place she has grown to love over the last decade. A graduate from the University of Denver, Edie works in technology and publishing and has previously engaged in various entrepreneurship and start-up opportunities. Both a business-oriented and creative-thinking individual, Edie joins the Backroad Brands team to meld her passion for the outdoors with her copywriting experience. When she's not working, you can find Edie practicing yoga, picking up groceries at the farmers' market, chipping away at her health coach certification, or hiking in the Rocky Mountains with her husband. She's our go-to gal for bringing a blog post alive!
Mike Dommert -- Business Manager
Despite his Austin, Texas roots, the mountains are a place of solace and adventure for Mike. From the challenges they provide, to the fresh air and year-round activities, Mike has been a Colorado aficionado since his very first ski trip. After graduating from Texas A&M University, Mike worked in the finance group at HomeAdvisor’s Denver office. Ironically, though, he spent every hard-earned vacation day outside of the state—in Idaho. As a previous whitewater guide on the Main Salmon, Mike made the ultimate decision to move to Sun Valley full-time. While Mike has a passion for whitewater guiding, his experience working for a successful technology startup lead him to help us out at Backroad Brands. He can run Excel like a machine and without a doubt is a truly positive impact to our team.
ALLIE JOHNSON -- CONTENT CREATOR AND GO GETTER
Born and raised in Washington State between the waves of the Pacific Ocean and the trails of the Olympic Mountains, Allie’s life as an outdoor enthusiast was inevitable. With her yoga mat and dancing shoes in toe, her goal to take life by the reins has sent her to desirable destinations. From spending summers throughout college commercial salmon fishing in Alaska to jumping between countries in Southeast Asia the day after college graduation, she describes her decision to pack up her snowboard and start her next adventure in Sun Valley, ID, "the next big one.”
Her craving to work in brand awareness for business of all shapes and sizes developed from her years working alongside her father’s seafood catering company and designing his current marketing platform. She chose to study communications, business and event planning at WWU in Bellingham, WA, because she knew those areas were the most important aspects to any marketing department. Her goal was to learn how to become an effective resource to any brand looking to blossom.
Today, her experience ranges in comprehensive and integrated branding strategies, such as website development and management, creative content creation, campaigns, social media analytics and most importantly - storytelling.
Allie knows that in today’s world, there are exponentially more resources for a company to analyze their effectiveness and test out different strategies. And thanks to online content marketing, business owners are now able to reach many more people in a much more efficient manner. She brings innovative thinking, energy, and expertise to each project. Her infinite passion about the outdoors, wellness and experiencing a BIG LIFE are clear in each project produced.
